About Port Data

What is a port code?

A port code identifies a port in five characters: two letters for the country and three for the place, as in NLRTM for Rotterdam. Most follow the UN/LOCODE standard. Some carriers use a different code for the same port, and each port page lists those codes too.

Where do the port figures come from?

Routes, transit times and carrier shares come from containers tracked on ShipsGo that were loaded or discharged at the port in the last six months. On ports where we follow carrier schedules, the next planned departures and arrivals come from the schedules the carriers publish.

How often are the port pages updated?

Routes and carriers are recalculated every week. Planned departures and arrivals and the congestion level are refreshed every day.

How do I compare carriers between two ports?

Search your port of loading and port of discharge in Service Finder. You'll see every carrier's services on that route side by side, with real transit times, schedule reliability and recent sailings.
