About MSC

Mediterranean Shipping Company was founded in 1970 by Captain Gianluigi Aponte, who started with one small cargo ship, the MV Patricia. The company is still owned by the Aponte family and run from Geneva, and it describes itself as the world's largest container shipping company.

The 2M vessel-sharing agreement with Maersk ended in January 2025. Since then MSC has not belonged to an alliance and sets its own port rotations, while it exchanges slots with the Premier Alliance of ONE, HMM and Yang Ming on a number of Asia to Europe services.

This page shows what MSC containers tracked on ShipsGo actually did: the routes MSC sails most, real transit times and how often MSC kept to its planned schedule.

How These Figures Are Calculated

Schedule reliability and route transit times come from MSC containers that started being tracked on ShipsGo between 18 April 2026 and 18 October 2026 and have since been discharged. Transit time runs from loading at the origin port to discharge at the destination. Route figures average every routing MSC uses on that port pair, so a single service in a Service Finder search can differ. A route or month is shown only when enough containers were tracked on it for a meaningful average, and volumes are shown as shares rather than counts.
